The Well of Shama. What was it? Where is it today?

Wanted to offer a little group investigation into this Well of Shama. The well is mentioned on this 1794 map. Some of the possible questions to answer:

• What was this well?
  • As in... was it actually a water well?
• Who made it?
  • Who was Shama?
• Does it still exist?
  • If it does:
    • What do we call it today?
    • Where is this well today?

This here is the general location of the well.

As far as Shama goes... could he be one of these two?

I could definitely see it being a Well of Heavens. Makes sense.

At the same time we have texts like this, suggesting that Shama could also be a person.

And this here... Hothan the Aroerite was the father of two of David's captains.

Just stumbled into this Bala-Ishem well. It does not appear to be anywhere close to the OP location. Here is one of the pertaining older texts.

Wondering if this starfort, previously mentioned by @Right Arm, has anything to do with the "Ancient Building" located just north of the Well of Shama on the OP map.

Shama ’(שָׁמַע, H8085),“ hear, listen, attend, obey, publish ”. The word is found in most Semitic languages, including Hebrew and Biblical Aramaic (9 times). Shama 'appears in all historical periods of Hebrew and some 1,160 times in the Bible.
Basically this verb means "to listen" with the ears. It has several nuances. In Gen 37:17 a man tells Joseph that he "heard" his brothers say, "We are going to Dothan." In other words, what the man "heard" was by chance. Shama 'can also be used in the sense of "eavesdropping"
What if they are called "the well of Shama" because it is the place where you can hear something.
This is the Hebrew root of the name Simeon (Shimeon), Simon (Shimon), Samuel (Shemuel), etc.
All these names have in their meaning a relationship with “actively listening”,
